Eat, Swim, Write

I interrupt your regularly scheduled blog post (the big story about my dress saga) to tell you about my excitement for today. It is now day three of operation “you’re going to have to take that dress in 3 sizes.” Yeah, maybe I’m a little ambitious about my weight loss goals, and who starts a diet right before the holiday’s anyway!? But, I’ve really committed myself to doing this, and as I’m half way through day 3, it seems to be going quite well. Here are some of the elements of my plan:

Food: I’ve started my own little weight watchers plan. I’ve done this in the past and understand the point system. I even still have my little sliding scale point calculator that I keep in my desk at work as well as at home in the kitchen. I’ve been planning my meals ahead of time to cut down on last minute splurges for lunch or snacks that end up being more points…

Exercise: I’ve committed myself to AT LEAST 3 days a week of exercise. I will try for more when I can – but given my crazy work schedule and all of our social engagements outside of work with family and friends – 3 really is the most realistic for me.

Journal: I started a journal, well really just an extension of my daily planner book… Each day I write down exactly what I eat and how much exercise I get in. It not only helps me keep track of all the food I’ve had for the day, but also gives me a sense of accomplishment looking back on those successful days where I didn’t go over on my points and I did get in 45 minutes of cardio.

So, yeah, I know I’m really only in the first few days of this new plan – but I’m feeling so great about it so far. AND – I’m actually sore today from my half hour swim last night! I looked up online to find how many calories I “potentially” burned and found this website with a little calorie chart (based on one hour of time per your body weight):

Definitely going to try to get in the pool more often!
